CAP Développement is an international solidarity association founded in Normandy, France, and based in Sainneville-sur-Seine. It is managed by a board of directors composed of ten volunteer members, supported by a committed executive committee. Since its creation, the association has placed the promotion of sustainable development at the heart of its mission, particularly in Burkina Faso, where it has been officially recognized as a Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) by local authorities since 2004.

CAP Développement’s operational branch in Burkina Faso is located at the Maison des Associations de Nouna, in the provinces of Kossi and Banwa. This branch, run by a local salaried team, is responsible for the implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of projects on the ground. It plays a strategic role in the association’s local presence and in maintaining a continuous connection with the beneficiaries.

The association pursues a multifaceted mission, structured around four main pillars:

  • Supporting local development initiatives, both in France and abroad;
  • Raising public awareness about the challenges of international solidarity and sustainable development;
  • Designing, funding, and implementing concrete projects tailored to the needs of local populations;
  • Promoting cooperation and exchanges between economic, social, cultural, and educational stakeholders.

For over 30 years, CAP Développement has carried out multisectoral actions responding to the fundamental needs of rural communities in Burkina Faso, through an integrated and sustainable approach:

  • Access to water and sanitation: construction of boreholes, building of latrines, and community-based water management.
  • Education: construction of primary schools, creation of a secondary school and a youth hostel, and support for children’s schooling.
  • Health: construction of a health dispensary, prevention campaigns, and awareness-raising on community health.
  • Sustainable agriculture: creation of educational gardens, establishment of cereal banks, and training in market gardening, agroecology, and food processing.
  • Environment: development of school clubs, awareness campaigns on the preservation of natural resources, and sanitation projects.

The proper functioning of the association relies on the ongoing commitment of its volunteers in France, who lead awareness-raising activities, seek funding opportunities, and coordinate the support network. On the ground, the Burkinabe team ensures continuity of action and guarantees that projects are adapted to the local context.

Despite a sometimes unstable security situation in Burkina Faso, CAP Développement continues to demonstrate resilience and dedication, supporting its partners through a co-development approach that values local resources and promotes community self-sufficiency.
